Have you ever found that the more someone pushes you to do something the less you want to do it.
The recruitment guy from York e-mailed me back and said that with my skill set I'd probably get promoted if I can stick it out on the Service Desk for a few months
That might be true, but I'm not willing to chance it because once I'm there they're under no obligation to promote me. Plus, I'm hearing bad things about them as an employer.
So I've sent another firm but polite rejection.
I had 3 phone calls about jobs yesterday so I'm not really feeling the pressure to take the first job that comes along.

Date: 2008-05-22 11:53 am (UTC)My mother does that with housework all the time. The more often she tells me that something needs to be done, the less I want to do it. And she doesn't seem to get it.
I think you made the right decision. They might want you to take the job, but if you don't feel entirely comfortable with it, you shouldn't take it. And you're right, you can't force them to promote you once you work for them. (How stupid of them to suggest something like that, bah.)

Date: 2008-05-22 07:46 pm (UTC)That is my entire existence.
The more they push, the more dodgy it probably;y is. Plus with your skill set, why wait for the promotion when you could wait a little and get it now?
