Thanks for posting this Hils. I've now found said Firefly post and the woman's anger and hate quite scare me. Also, she picks and chooses elements to fit her 'argument' which don't sit well together and, oooh she just makes me angry by being so dumb.

It scares me that there are other people who think like her.

You know I did some indepth watching on Firefly and Serenity to write The Rarer Action and I just do not see what she claims. Reading the comments and responses, it's clear that she has some serious issues with half the human race *and* with those in the other half that don't consider them evil incarnate.

Ugh. There's so much in that post that pisses me off. From her claims that Joss is a rapist and abuses his wife, to her saying no white woman can be in a relationship with a black man and not suffer abuse. The racism that's inherent in her post is actually quite scary.

Though, it does amuse me that she thinks that Xander being a pro-porn, sex obsessed teenage male is sexist. Oh, sweetie, I'm a pro-porn, sex obsessed teenage female! It's typical; get over it.

Huh, just read almost the whole post. While I have read actual academic essays that critique the portrayal of feminism in firefly as well as cultural stereotyping that's used, that post was um........unique. And to call it un-academic is really a compliment.

I mean, I consider myself a strong feminist and while the gal does have a point, it's so blown out of proportion and lacking in evidence to actually back up her claims, that that which IS in fact accurate becomes laughable at best. It's actually sad, because its women like that that give feminism a bad name.
