Is anyone else watching the new version of Sense and Sensibility? We gave up after ten minutes, especially since the girl playing Marianne is trying so hard to be Kate Winslet. And what was with all the erotica before the opening credits?

It's finished now, until next Sunday, but seems to be relatively faithful to what I recall of the book, except that Brandon is blatently cuter than Willoughby... I imagine the bit at the start was Whats-his-face-Edward?, the step-brother-in-law who's secretly engaged?

I thought the girl doing Eleanor did a very passable vocal imitation of Emma Thompson too, but stuck with it to the end. There were several moments definitely not in the book and equally definitely in the film. (Margaret hiding in the library and noticed by Edward, for example.)

Annoying, though it's still Austen, so I will have to watch I fear.

ETA:
My guess is that the erotica is the ev0l seduction of Col Brandon's ward - the reason he has to gallop away to her rescue later on in the novel.

There is a new version of that movie? I didn't even know! O_O
But I suppose I better stick to the old one, hm?

It's a TV movie. I wasn't overly impressed.
