Monday Fic Recs
Aug. 4th, 2014 01:05 pmWell, I said there would be a big one when I got back from my travels. There'd probably be more if one of these wasn't 100k in length :D
I really did manage to read a lot of the classic tropes during my hols. It was great!
Steve/Bucky (MCU)
Devil's Gonna Follow Me (Wherever I Go) by lyaka
The man who used to be Bucky Barnes lined up his shot. His finger twitched, only once, very precisely.
Help me, the bullet sang.
Ninety-eight floors below him, the bullet glanced off a vibranium shield with a musical ping.
And Steve Rogers looked up.
This is a really interesting exploration of Steve and Bucky's recovery post-Winter Soldier
Escape From New York by beardsley
On Monday morning Thor parades bare-ass naked around the Tower; it all goes downhill from there. Or, the one where New York gets infected with alien sex pollen, Steve appears to be the only sane man, and the things that ensue include hilarity, fake zombies, pining and surprise makeouts. And a bear trap.
This one was so much fun!
How Can A Loser Ever Win by sirona
The Soldier should not be standing here, in the middle of a crowded room with obstructed exits, risking discovery with every second he remains rooted to the spot -- but.
But. He'd had to know.
This is so sweet and tragic and beautiful
The Man on the Bridge by boopboop
Steve Rogers turning up at Tony's door in the middle of the night might be a bit out of character, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. Stranger things have happened.
Steve Rogers turning up at Tony's door with an amnesiac assassin - who may or may not have some of Tony's personally designed hardware attached where his arm should be - well that's just far too interesting to turn away, even if Tony is trying to avoid all things S.H.I.E.L.D these days.
Okay, so this is pretty much the best post-Winter Soldier fic I have read. It's harrowing and angsty and dramatic but perfect. There were chunks of my vacation where I was looking at cool stuff but wishing I was reading more of this fic. So great.
Night Light by thebrotherswinchester
Bucky's a beat-up rentboy in need of a place to stay.
I love that this has taken a classic trope but still managed to incorporate elements from the Winter Soldier movie. Excellent.
Parallel Constructions by freshbakedlady
In the absence of orders, the man wearing the face of Bucky Barnes must figure out who he will be. The answer, mostly, is "somebody Steve Rogers can love." Nothing so easy should ever take this much work.
This is so sweet
Red, White and Blue, What Does It Mean To You by odsbodkins
AU: When war breaks out in Europe in 1939, Steve and Bucky cross the border into Canada, pretend to be Canadian and join the RAF.
"Another two men came through the door. Quite the contrasting pair—one tall and dark, the other one blond and so short that the recruiting officer must have included his hat to get him over the regulation height.
The two introduced themselves as Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers, in accents that John had never expected to hear in the RAF. Naturally he’d heard that some Americans were passing themselves off as Canadian to join in the fight, but…to be entirely honest, he’d thought that they’d be more convincing Canadians."
This actually isn't as cracky as it sounds and is a wonderful team fic
The Supersoldier's Amnesiac Groom by casspeach
Steve Rogers has always known that the supersoldier serum was a gift, and he's never been afraid to do what's right.
When Uncle Sam asks him to unite the two sides of the Cold War by taking part in a symbolic union with a fabled Russian assassin, Captain America doesn't hesitate to do his duty.
Little does he know how thoroughly his world is going to be turned upside down.
This was just delightful. Perfect harlequin romance
To The One I've Sinned Against by dsudis
He knelt, touched his fingers to forehead, chest, left shoulder, right, and said more words than the soldier could ever remember speaking together.
They came in a well-worn fluent rush, easier than any post-mission report: "Bless me Father, for I have sinned. It has been a long time since my last confession."
This is so great! Wonderful backstory and a heartbreaking and perfect post-Winter Soldier fic at the same time
Welcome to Wherever You Are by musesfool
Steve reaches out and hooks his fingers around Bucky's, holding on the way he didn't--couldn't--all those years ago.
Really sweet story as Steve and Bucky figure out their relationship post-Winter Soldier
Where the Circle Ends by renne
In which the world has gone to hell in a zombie apocalypse handbasket and, in the middle of it all, Steve finds the one person he never thought he'd see again. Angst and feelings (amongst other things) ensue
Absolutely loved this one. Definitely full of angst and feelings like the author says :D
Clint/Coulson (MCU)
Don't Look (Don't Stop Looking) by selenay
Maybe, just maybe, Clint actually did spend a bit too much time thinking about what Coulson wore to bed.
Not that it meant anything. Clearly it didn't. He'd just always thought that what a person slept in was a good indicator of what that person was like as a...person.
This is hilarious and adorable :D
Fill Up Your Lungs (And Just Run) by nerdwegian
"You've seriously never gone skinny dipping, sir?"
Aka "Five times Clint went in the SHIELD Academy swimming pool."
This one is hot, but also really sweet
