Huh

It's funny but having spent most of this week reading fic for spn_j2_bigbang I've realised that I kind of don't really ship them anymore. I mean all the J2 big bangs for this year's challenge, and I mean ALL of them, are AU anyway so I can appreciate the ones that are written well as pretty much original stories.

But when it comes to non-AU RPS I've realised I'd much rather read about these two


Let's ignore the fact that Misha's other hand is suspiciously out of sight

Which I really can't explain because I haven't seen them do any panels together or read any interviews with them. I've just read some awesome fic. Really it would make more sense to ship Jared/Misha given the stuff that's come out of the panels and the fact that I've always been a Jared!girl but no one really writes it.

I think this is because I've never been all that intersted in the big mainstream pairings. Rarer ones have always been more interesting to me

*shrug*

I'll keep reading the big bang fics of course but I think in terms of writing I find it unlikely I'll write any more J2 after my big bang gets posted in August.

Monday Fic Recs

Unless specified otherwise these are all from spn_j2_bigbang. I haven't read all the ones that were posted last week yet but I've got them all on my reader so I'll get there

Praise The Lord (And Pass The Ammunition) by nekomitsu
When Dean dies yet again Heaven decides it's been missing an angel and it's time to fill the vacancy. It takes Dean a long, long time –and several miracles performed over cheeseburgers and lice– to come to terms with his new celestial life and his old earthly temptations. Featuring Dean's new set of wings, human Castiel, beers at the Roadhouse, the Choirs of Heaven, a naked Sammy, Michael and other angels with bard inclinations, lame pick-up lines, Zachariah's lion head, gaudy motels, and Oprah-worthy revelations that are way funnier in Enochian.
This is a really original idea and it absolutely made me laugh out loud several times. But it's a really nice blend of crack, schmoop, angst and just general awesome. I really enjoyed it. At least part of the joy comes from the background characters. I loved Michael and Raphael in particular

Jared grew up in Barnes, Texas, home of prestigious Wilson College. He knows everyone in town, and they know him. Jensen Ackles, star student of Wilson, is the name everyone knows, but the person nobody does. He's graduating at the top of the class and is leaving town in just twelve weeks for a research fellowship in California. After seeing Jensen around town for four years, Jared finally decides to bite the bullet and ask him out. Nobody is so sure this is a good idea, including Jared's best friends Katie and Danneel, and Jensen's roommate Misha and his brother Josh. Can a college brain and a townie who hasn't quite figured out his next steps fit together? The road is bumpy, but it might just be worth it. (Verrry loose adaptation of the movie Say Anything.)
This is what a movie fusion done well looks like. The barest hints of Say Anything are there, enough to make me smile as I remembered scenes from the movie, but it's different enough to feel freshing and not like something I've read before. Really awesome fic. Had me smiling all the way through it.

In Becoming Who We Are by eliza_jane
Fresh out of school with a degree from the University of Washington, Jensen meets and falls for Jeff Morgan. He may not know what he wants to do with his life, but for the first time since leaving Texas, he feels like things are coming together. Jeff seems like the perfect guy, right up until it all falls apart, and Jensen is left wondering where he went wrong.

A couple failed relationships and a few years later, Jensen's decided that one-night stands are preferable to dates. He's got his friends and his roommate, Sophia, for everything non-sex related, after all. Until Sophia decides to move in with her boyfriend and Jensen's stuck trying to find a new roommate. At Sophia's insistence, Jensen meets Jared Padalecki and the two become fast friends. Only, the more they get to know each other, the more obvious it is that there's something there. But Jensen is unwilling to risk losing Jared's friendship for the possibility of more. Unfortunately, if he doesn't get things figured out, he might lose Jared anyway.
I absolutely loved this. Well characterised, really hot (even the Jensen/JDM stuff which I don't even ship) and just an overall really enjoyable read. This is the first one I've read that completely sucked me in

Just bought my ticket for wincon

I have a bit of a favour to ask now. Is anyone else doing both Chicon and Wincon? Basically I'm leaving my room for Chicon on the Monday and my roomie for Wincon is arriving on the Wednesday so I have two nights to sort out for myself. If it comes to it I'll just get a couple of nights at the wincon hotel by myself but I thought if anyone else is going to be around maybe I could crash in your room or something. I'll happily take a floor/couch/cot. Just trying to save some pennies.
