Poll results
May. 18th, 2003 12:46 pmYou remember ages ago I asked people what their favourite cinematic moments were. Well, I've finally gotten around to posting the results. Here they are, in no particular order
The scene in Dances With Wolves where they are hunting buffalo
The scene in Gone With The Wind where the camera pulls back to see thousands of wounded and dying men lying on the train tracks in Atlanta.
The opening scene of The Sound Of Music with Julie Andrews on the hill.
The scene in Road to Perdition with the gunfire in the rain. Climatic and it looked simply fantastic.
The scene in Titanic where you see the tiny lifeboat bobbing in the water while the propellors rise out of the ocean and into the air. Also the 'Nearer my God to Thee' segment.
And the scene at the very end of The Usual Suspects. You know the one I mean!
The very last few moments of "The Blair Witch Project".
Scarlett O'Hara kneeling in the dirt and shaking a shriveled potato at the sky. I have a good friend who is very good at charades who insists that this is the international sign for "Scarlett O'Hara".
Near the end of Casablanca, when Captain Renault exclaims to the police, "Major Strasser has been shot! (pause) Round up the usual suspects!"
"Close Encounters of the Third Kind": when the alien ship first responds to the musical tones, and blasts out all the windows!
"E.T.": the kids flying on their bicycles.
"Risky Business": Tom Cruise dancing in his underwear.
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off": Ferris singing "Twist and Shout" on top of the parade float
"Jerry Maguire": Show ... me ... the money!
"The Full Monty": all the guys in line to pick up their unemployment cheques, when "Hot Stuff" comes on the radio, and they all start unconsciously practicing their dance steps in perfect unison
The Frog Fall in Magnolia, particularly the one which prevents the suicide.
The Girl waving to the Mum at the end of Donnie Darko
A few words..."OH CHRIST NO!"
Last of the Mohicans, when Daniel Day Lewis does that speech to the woman he loves "Stay alive! No matter what occurs, I will find you"
The scene in the movie Say Anything with John Cusack holding up the boom box serenading his girl.
Tom Cruise and Kelly Mcgillis in Top Gun, their silloutted love scene, and also the scene in the bar when Tom and the guys sing "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling".
Pulp Fiction, Jules (Samuel L. Jackson) speech that he says right before he kills someone..."The path of the rightous man, is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish, and the tyranny of evil men" etc.
The scene in Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta doing that funky finger point dance, in that god awful white suit
Rocky running up the steps of that museum in Philadelphia.
The scene in Dances With Wolves where they are hunting buffalo
