The office bitca strikes again
Mar. 5th, 2003 09:17 pmWork had been tolerable today. I had stuff to do for most of the morning which was a plus. Came back after lunch and had this little conversation
Bitca: I had a very interesting conversation about you at lunchtime
Me (foolishly thinking this was going to be something nice): Oh really? What about?
Bitca: I'm not going to say
Me (huh?): Um...ok. Should I be worried?
Bitca (deadly serious): Yeah, I would be. It's very embarassing.
Me (mega huh): Well who were you talking to?
Bitca: I'm not going to say
At this point I shake my head and give up. Then the only other person who was in the office left to make tea.
Bitca: People have been complaining about your attitude
Me (stunned): What?
Bitca: In the past three months I've had three people talk to me about your attitude.
Me: How do you mean my attitude?
Bitca: Just the way you talk to people.
Me: Well, who's been saying this?
Bitca: I'm not going to say, but if you want to get into management you clearly need to address this problem
Me: Well maybe you should tell these people that if they have a problem with me that they should come and talk to me.
Bitca: I would but people think you're unapproachable.
That was the end of the conversation. I sat on this all afternoon until finally I caved and went to see my boss. I wanted to know if anyone had complained to him about me. He said not and that most likely the people the bitca was referring to were the people she has lunch with and who don't know me. He then said it was just gossip and I should ignore it.
I pointed out that this isn't the first time she's humiliated me in front of my work colleagues and that I'm sick and tired of her giving me hassle. It wasn't like she was trying to give me friendly advice she was just being malicious and has clearly been talking about me to people that don't know me.
Boss seemed to fob me off and I left no happier. Went and ranted at Matthew for a bit and then came back. Boss guy called me back into his office and said that he'd spoken to the head of our department and made him aware of the problem (he got involved last time the bitca had a go at me). Boss told me that whilst he couldn't give me details that things are afoot that are going to mean changes in the structure of our office. He mentioned her annual report and I'm guessing it wasn't a good one. He also seemed to hint that they were going to move her somewhere else.
Boss then told me I could make a formal complaint about her if I wanted and that what she's been doing to me equates to harrassment. I asked if I could think about it and was told yes.
Now have to decide what to do. Everyone I have spoken to so far has told me to make the complaint. There's still a part of me that thinks that I'm over-reacting and being too sensitive though. Still I've got a couple of days to think about it. Boss is off tomorrow and bitca is off on Friday.
It's thinkin' time.
