They're not being very subtle

Something which has only just occurred to me. The creators of Merlin have openly said that the show was inspired by Smallville. Now, look at Merlin's preferred wardrobe: Red shirt and blue neckscarf or blue shirt and red neckscarf

They're not even trying here, are they. LOL! What next: Arthur goes bald?

Your next task - Shoop Colin's face onto a suitably heroic picture of Clark (like, for example, your icon right there)...

Hehe! Sadly I don't have those sorts of skills

[identity profile] lou-angel.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
How about Merlin rips open his clothes only to remember that he hasn't got a superhero costume underneath?
I'd be happy with that :D

Oh, yes, me too

Plus he's a bit too skinny to be Superman.

I started rewatching the series on DVD today, and all the Smallville similarities jumped out at me. Funny, but they really hadn't before! Colin Morgan even looks like a much shorter, skinnier Tom Welling. ;)

With adorably big ears *g*

I think in my first episode review of Merlin I pointed out all the similarities. This was before the writers said they'd been inspired by Smallville

I'll take him home and feed him up.

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
Can I help?

[identity profile] lou-angel.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Of course.
Bring cheese. There is never enough.

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Of course!

I swear to god, in 1x11, Arthur is wearing purple. I think I died. (And also really wanted to come up with some clever way to make crossover, but alas! I am not that smart. T_T )

But seriously, somewhere we need to make a post and just discuss all the ways Merlin = Smallville. <3

ETA: Proof! The purple! Witness it! \0/ *flails*

That's explains...

Bugger, I said I'd be good.

Ahahaha, not his beautiful hair! I think some photoshopping is definitely called for...

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe! Maybe I'll post this over at [livejournal.com profile] merlinxarthur and get them to join in

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 12:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe! Well, Christmas is over now

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe! I wish I had Photoshop skills

[identity profile] littlehollyleaf.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee. Yes, someone else pointed out the clothes thing to me and I thought it was fun. They've openly said SV inspired it though, huh? Fantastic, now whenever I'm in the mood for a British vs American argument I can say 'hey look at Merlin, it's sooo much better written than SV, we ROCK!' :p

... although... are you really keen for a cross-over right about now too? I was thinking have Clark in the UK pulling Excalibur from a stone would be pretty awesome! :D

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Or Merlin time travels and winds up in Smallville. There's certainly potential there

And let us not forget Bradley is to the Merlin cast what Michael was to the Smallville one. Yeah, that's right.

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! Yes, he totally is, and Colin is shy and quiet like Tom

[identity profile] lou-angel.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
And a bottle of wine
:D

[fibre geek]Purple is traditionally a royal colour because it was one of the hardest and most expensive colours to dye. It makes sense that Arthur would wear it, and it's associations with luxury (and the roman emporers, who were the only ones allowed to wear purple togas) mean its perfect for Lex as well. [/fibre geek]

Plus, its a good colour for both Lex and Arthur anyway.

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe! I'll bring a box

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Arthur certainly looks as good in it as Lex does

*wants more Arthur in purple*

[identity profile] lou-angel.livejournal.com 2008-12-29 01:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Or a crate :D
