*hurries*

I spent a lovely, relaxed afternoon making Excalibur icons and picspam. Will post those tomorrow.

Ok, folks, here's the rest of my Glastonbury pics. Want to get them up before dinner as my internet time will have run out by the time I get back.

After the Abbey I headed towards the tor but decided to go back to my hotel room first and dump a load of stuff. It was too warm for a coat and I had a load of stuff in my bag that I didn't need and didn't fancy lugging up to the top.

Stopped off at The Chalice Well on the way back as [livejournal.com profile] richandme and [livejournal.com profile] bogwitch had both recommended it. Embarassingly they don't take any form of plastic there and I had the total sum of about £1.50 in cash on me. The lovely lady at the desk let me in for free. I thanked her profusely.

I definitely chose the right time of year to go. My allergies would have been playing hell with me if I'd gone in the summer when all the flowers were in full bloom.

After that it was onwards and upward to the tor

Walking to the tor

For all you Sharpe fans ;)

Apparently the water has a lot of iron in it which is why the rocks have turned red

They let you drink the water so I thought I'd give it a try. It tasted...odd...but not unpleasant. Had two glasses so it can't have been that bad

The well

They have little seating areas like this all over. I'm telling you, if I hadn't wanted to get to the top of the tor before the rain came I'd have stayed there all day.

The drinking area

At the base of the tor

Starting the ascent

You're quite high up before you even start climbing

Halfway up

Still halfway up

A bit closer

I made it!

The views were amazing even on an overcast day

Me at the top with my exploding hair

And round the other side we get the windswept look

Inside looking up

For your info

Cream tea and fanfic for lunch

Thank you for sharing the photos! Glastonbury is one of those places I hope to be able to visit before I die :)

I highly recommend it

what a gorgeous place!!

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
It really is!

[identity profile] bogwitch.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It was nice to see what the rooms of the hotel look like as it's such a landmark. I think I only went into the bar.

Did you go into any magic shops?

I went to the Well on a lovely sunny day too, although I think mine was in Summer. the place is so quiet and relaxed - somehow beyond just a garden.

There is another spring outside the gardens, but it was surrounding by dodgy looking youths when I went past it. I didn't fancy stopping!

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I spent last night sat down in the bar drinking wine and writing fanfic. It was fab!

I didn't go into any magic shops in the end as I was over on the other side of town all day.

I have to say I got more of a vibe from the abbey than the garden, but it is incredibly peaceful

There does seem to be a lot of dodgy youths in this town

[identity profile] bogwitch.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the abbey was the only place I didn't get a vibe. You'll have to go back when you get a car, there's so much more to see.

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, I'm sure there is :)

[identity profile] cinderella81.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Lovely pictures!!!

*sigh*

I want to go there SO bad!!! It looks so peaceful and ... mystical and mythical ...

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
It is all of those things. If you ever come to the UK I recommend it

[identity profile] tasabian.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Lovely pics - that looks like an enjoyable hill to climb! (But it's sad such a beautiful spot was used for a hanging.)

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that is sad! Bloody Henry VIII that was! If it wasn't for him all our lovely abbeys would be a bit more than ruins!

[identity profile] mariamme.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
EEE how exciting! And awesome that you climbed the whole way, I bet you were exhausted! I was, just from looking at the pictures. :D

How fun! Thanks for sharing!

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Yeah, I had to have a rest halfway up or I would have had a heart attack. LOL!

Glad you liked the pics :)

Your hotel looks amazing. I want that cream tea and I want it NOW!!!

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It was yummy! The scones were still warm

Mmm, cream tea! Heh, it is a long way up the tor, isn't it? More great pics.

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Aye. I had to stop halfway for a rest because I am crap

Heh, I was actually still fit when we went there. I'd probably need multiple rests these days!

Oh, more pics, yay!
The pics from the tor are amazing! And the well... so beautiful!
I completely understood why would you spent the whole day in one of those sitting places. They look so peaceful!
About the red rocks, we had something similar in my country. In our Mesopotamia, land is full of iron, so lands and rivers are really red, and, when you walk in there, you becomes red *laughs*
This is a pic from Misiones. Amazing place!

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
OOH! Pretty!

[identity profile] rockgoddes.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I was wondering if you'd stayed at that place and oh look, you did! That's awesome!

I remember a couple of climbs up the Tor...and you can see the yew tree from up there, that's been there for a couple thousand years. I think it's a yew tree, anyway.

Thanks for sharing your photos...must dig mine out at some point and scan them, so we can see if anything has changed since I was there last (which I think was 2001...).

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I think I want to live here. But only if Stratford Upon Avon is full ;)

[identity profile] greenfairyels.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The one time I ever went up the Tor was when I was about 12 and my dad made us climb up the steep side...I remember not enjoying the experience because of it.

I can't believe I only went there the once - I lived about 20mins drive away for 20 years!

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Oh, I imagine it's not fun if you're being forced

[identity profile] rohaa.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
That hill? Looks EXACTLY like the Edinburgh's craighs and Arthur's Seat. Only with a tower on top.

Your teeth look like my teeth o_O But mine are more vampiry.

Can still smell the history pouring off this, but more so with the Tor itself than the well and the rest. The hill is pretty meh. Edin spoiled me rotten. BUT LOOKIT THAT TOR!! *stare*

You make me jealous.

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! I am probably more amused than I should be that we have the same teeth

[identity profile] rohaa.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine are uglier. I have a vampire tooth. Only one, though. I must be a hybrid.

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Now I am intrigued

[identity profile] rohaa.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Im' sure there's pics on my lj somewhere. Don't you wish now I tagged them properly ;)

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-07 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Hehe! Yes, I do

[identity profile] alinoradesancto.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe! Fanfic for lunch!

No magic shops?

Hmm..central Oz Australia is red too.

Your trek up that hill reminds me of climbing the Great Wall of China..

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee! Well, I didn't eat the fanfic for lunch. Would be a shameful waste of all my hard work ;)

[identity profile] alinoradesancto.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm...but you probably did...I mean, not physically, obviously...but...

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-09 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's true.

[identity profile] ghost-0106.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow! Wonderful piccies!!! You must have had a fantastic time!

I'm planning to visit Glastonbury (and Tintagel and Land's End) this summer and thanks to your lovely pics am now looking forward to it even more!!!

[identity profile] hils.livejournal.com 2009-03-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I really want to go to Tintagel!
