Writing

I need to make a start on my clothes swap challenge fic this week. I've got a kernel of an idea so I'm just going to make a start and see what happens.

My remix fic is causing me more problems. I am lucky (in a way) that I have been given a very prolific author to work with but the downside is that I have to read 80+ Smallville fics and pick which one to work on. I still haven't really got my head around what remixing a fic involves. Is it just rewriting using my own words? I know I'm allowed to change stuff but I have no idea what to change.

Has anyone done this before?

I've done the last two years. There are no hard and fast rules, every remix is different - the first year I took a drabble and expanded on it, the second year I took a longer fic and wrote it from the other character's POV. This year I think I am going to take a femslash and rewrite it as Dan/Casey. Probably the best thing to do would be to read a few, original and remix, and see what other people did.

Ok, that sounds like a good idea :)

That's what I noticed about remix fics - they're all different. I even read one where the author fed in the other character's POV in the spaces between scenes.

Yeah, I'm getting a feel for the sorts of things I can do now. I'm going through the fics at the moment and jotting down remix ideas.

On the signup post there are several examples and links to discussions on remixes, too. I took a look at those (and will again) to get an idea of what I'd be doing. I'm re-writing from another character's POV, which will definitely change the slant of the story. :-D

I'm going through the fics at the moment and they're mostly quite short. I'm having ideas missing scenes and things like that. I'll see what happens once I've read them all
