P&P
No, not Postage and Packing. I'm talking about Pride and Prejudice of course
Being a massive fan of the BBC version (with Colin Firth and the lake) I was rather dubious about this new version. Surprisingly though it didn't suck. I still like the BBC version better but this version wasn't bad at all
Things I liked
Donald Sutherland - I was really dubious about him but he was a great Mr Bennett. Managed to capture the wit without being too dry
Simon Woods - A nice refreshing and slightly comical Mr Bingley. I liked him a lot
Judi Dench - I knew she was going to be fab as Lady Catherine and she was
Jena Malone - A much more believable 15 year old Lydia than Julia Sawalha
Matthew MacFayden - REALLY surprised. I thought he was going to be a crap Darcy but he managed it very well. And walking through the mist at dawn is just as great as jumping into a lake!
Things I wasn't so keen on
Brenda Blethyn - A more subdued version of Mrs Bennett compared to Alison Steadman. I think anyone stepping into the role after Alison made her so over the top was going to be hard. I loved Alison's Mrs Bennett and I don't think anyone else will be quite as good
Keira Knightly - I *really* want to like Keira. She always seems so lovely. I just don't think she quite captured the passion and wit of Lizzie the way Jennifer Ehle did
Talulah Riley - She captured the character of Mary Bennett but I think she was just too pretty. Prettier than Lizzie and Jane in my opinion
Other than that I think it managed pretty well. Lots of striking scenery and dramatic weather.
